We run regular public tours most Saturday mornings and Monday evenings subject to the venue being available. These need booking in advance either on-line or by calling Derby Tourist Information Centre – 01332 643411. The cost for the 45 min – 1 hour tour including tea/coffee afterwards is just £6 per person.

Opening of The Famous Trains Model Railway
Famous Trains model railway opens its doors to the public on 12th and 13th April for the first time. The model railway and exhibition will then be open at weekends and bank holidays, opening between 11am and 4pm. Entry for the first few months is at a bargain rate as we continue to make our exhibition better and better.
The model railways and exhibition, and our associated shop, are in Markeaton Park, Derby, in the Famous Trains building which is alongside the main car park (off the Markeaton Island A38/A52) and next to the main terminus station of the Markeaton Park Light Railway.
Easter at The Famous Trains Model Railway
18th to 21st April
Over the four days of the long Easter weekend the Famous Trains exhibition will have a special Easter Egg theme. This will be from the 18th to 21st April inclusive, that is from Good Friday right through to Easter Monday, specially for families and children.
The model railways and exhibition, and our associated shop, are in Markeaton Park, Derby, in the Famous Trains building which is alongside the main car park (off the Markeaton Island A38/A52) and next to the main terminus station of the Markeaton Park Light Railway. Our 60feet-long 00-scale Chinley model railway will be running as well as several other layouts in differing scales and sizes. There will be something to attract people of all ages. Even Thomas will be there!

Mickleover Model Railway Group will be holding its 34th annual Derby Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May at Moorways Sports Centre, Derby.

Women in Rail provides support and networking opportunities to women in the rail industry. The group promotes rail as an attractive career choice and is developing strategies for engaging young people to consider a career in the sector.

Derby175 Celebration at the Silk Mill Museum
To include a brief illustrated talk explaining the historical context of Derby175 and its influence on Derby & beyond. The Midland Railway Study Centre will be open with conducted tours behind the scenes. The celebrated 7mm gauge model railway, a reconstruction of the Midland Railway in miniature, will be in operation.

The Big Bang Fair East Midlands
Taking place at the Roundhouse, Derby on Thursday 10th July, the Big Bang Fair East Midlands is the largest celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in the region. Attracting over 2,000 young people, the event enables students aged 9-19 to explore the exciting world of STEM.
