We run regular public tours most Saturday mornings and Monday evenings subject to the venue being available. These need booking in advance either on-line or by calling Derby Tourist Information Centre - 01332 643411. The cost for the 45 min - 1 hour tour including tea/coffee afterwards is just £6 per person.

We can also do private group tours for 10 people or more at a reduced cost of £5 per person. These are subject to the venue and guide availability, so we encourage people to phone our office to talk through options – 01332 643414.

Derby175 Celebration at the Silk Mill Museum 29th May

To include a brief illustrated talk explaining the historical context of Derby175 and its influence on Derby & beyond. The Midland Railway Study Centre will be open with conducted tours behind the scenes. The celebrated 7mm gauge model railway, a reconstruction of the Midland Railway in miniature, will be in operation.

The Big Bang Fair East Midlands 10th July

Taking place at the Roundhouse, Derby on Thursday 10th July, the Big Bang Fair East Midlands is the largest celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in the region. Attracting over 2,000 young people, the event enables students aged 9-19 to explore the exciting world of STEM.

This year the event will include a Derby175 showcase area, profiling the very best of the rail industry.

Antiques Roadshow at the Roundhouse 20th July

Civic Service at Derby Cathedral 25th October

A countywide celebration of 175 years of our railway industry - open to all.

The Dean of Derby, the Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum and the Railway Mission, with the support of Derby City Council and the Derby Telegraph, invite all who wish to celebrate the contribution of the railways to our City and County to join us at this event.

The address will be given by Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport.
